Sometimes the ELF is covered by homeowners insurance just like a bicycle. However many owners have reported that is not. Velosurance used to be a recommended company for insuring ELFs. However after one owner's ELF was stolen, they refused to honor the claim because it was not 'was not forcible entry'. Apparently an wheel was locked to the frame with a u-lock, but the ELF itself was not locked to something. It is recommended that you check the insurance's definition of 'locked or secured' to make sure you are meeting their requirements when you store your ELF. An owner reported on 9/23/2016 that Nationwide would cover her ELF. Another owner reported on 8/4/2015 "MetLife covered my Elf as they would a motorcycle." Another owner reported on 7/30/2015 "Amfam - motorcycle insurance policy." Another owner reported that the Liberty Mutual agent said to add it to the homeowner's policy as "scheduled property" which would raise the annual rate. |
