The Brain Box is the electronic heart of the ELF. Originally it consisted of a black box that contained several components. In this original setup the motor controller was mounted outside of the box. In recent versions the motor controller is part of the brain box.
To the left and right are pictures of the brain box from an early ELF. These photos were taken from a 2013 blog post by Ted Dillard. In the right picture you can see the components of the brain box. Even though the location and layout of the brain box has changed several times during the evolution of the ELF, the basic components that make it up are the same. If you click on the picture to the right you can see a larger version with the components labeled.
